It’s popular time to observe the Elk Rut! 🦌 That’s right, it’s elk mating season. You might see male bull elk with big antlers and maybe even hear them bugle! The bull elk are more aggressive this time of year protecting their harem of female elk. Safety is key. Keep your distance and bring your zoom lens so you can get a close-up photo without getting too close. Have fun and “Do Estes Right”!
Of course, it’s a beautiful time for hiking 🥾 to admire the colorful fall foliage! 🍃🍁🍂
Elk Fest is happening this weekend, a family-friendly festival with food trucks, performances, educational talks and more!
If you’re headed into Rocky Mountain National Park, a timed Entry pass is required (If you’re planning to enter the park between the hours of 5 a.m. to 6 p.m). Go online to Recreation.gov to book a timed entry or timed entry + Bear Lake Road.
In Estes Park, you can also:
- Visit the legendary Stanley Hotel. 🏨 They offer 4 types of tours: historic tour, The Shining Tour (yes, Stephen King), the Stanley night tour, and ice house tour (aka frozen dead guy tour). 👻@thestanleyhotel
- Go on a scenic horseback ride! 🐴 What a beautiful way to get out in nature this time of year. Some tours even take you into Rocky Mountain National Park.
- Ride up to the summit of Prospect Mountain on the Aerial Tramway, an easy 5 minute ride on a European-style cable car to enjoy beautiful panoramic views 🚡@estestram
